Made by Tibetan refugees and local Indian women in the northern Himalayas. The program provides job and skill training for the women doll makers. The dolls are Steiner inspired and you can customize skin tone and hair color.

My very favorite are Phoebe and Egg dolls by Lisa Press (she has an Etsy shop and a shop on her blog). Beautiful, beautiful dolls: a gorgeous variety of skin, hair, and eye colors, girls, boys, and toddlers, several sizes (14”, 16.5”, and a gloriously huggable 23”), and she sends a set of patterns with each doll and has tutorials on her blog to learn to sew for them. Plus for every doll she sells she makes one to donate to a child in the foster system. Good all around!
