How To Deal With Eczema

Between 10-15% of children suffer from eczema. From the outside, eczema can look like irritated skin, a small rash, or a sunburn, but for the person who’s dealing with it, it can be extremely frustrating, painful, and embarrassing. Eczema is a skin condition that causes intensely dry, sensitive, itchy skin. Breakouts come and go, but eczema oftentimes lasts for years, into adolescence and adulthood. It’s important to identify it early on, so you can start treatment right away.

There is currently no cure for eczema, but it can be properly managed with the help of medicinal or natural remedies, creams, balms, and lotions. Here are some that we have tried with our children and love: Mustela Stelatopia Lipid-Replenishing Balm, for its ability to soothe and relieve dryness and itching. Here are a few tips that will hopefully help your little one (or yourself) back to feeling healthy and happy:
-Always shower and take baths with lukewarm water—never hot, as it can cause your breakout to worsen or spread!
-Know your triggers. Test for allergies and avoid those things. Eczema is usually caused by an allergic reaction of some sort.
-Eat a lot of healthy, raw foods. Try limiting intake of gluten and dairy products, as they are known to cause allergic reactions.
-Only use products that are formulated for sensitive skin. Go for all-natural products that are fragrance free.
-Dress in soft, loose clothing to prevent itching or chafing.
-Use a humidifier during the winter months to keep skin soft and moisturize daily.
-Try a good ol’ fashioned oatmeal bath. It’s known to calm skin and stop itching.
-Drink lots of water!
