Our Editor’s Fall 2017 Beauty Picks

Written by James Kicinski-McCoy

Fall is a time to update your wardrobe—queue the cold weather coats, scarves, and boots—and, of course, it’s necessary to switch up your beauty regimen, too! As the sole Beauty Editor here at Mother, I wanted to share some of the skincare, makeup, and hair products that made the cut this season. See what I am using and loving and why, right here!

“When I have dry, cracked, chapped, or irritated skin, this trusty little balm made by one of my BFFs is my go-to solution from head to toe! It’s 100% organic and includes only the best ingredients like plantain, calendula, and chamomile. I keep one in every purse, inside my jacket pocket, in my car, by my bedside, and even in my kitchen.” Clary Balm, $16.50, Clary Collection.

“Now that the temps are dropping and the air is dry, my skin has been drinking up moisturizer like no other. I’ve stocked up on my favorite skin cream Creme de La Mer. I ordered a duo, which is perfect for those who are constantly on-the-go because it comes with a one ounce size, which can easily slip into a purse or travel bag, plus a three ounce for the vanity or bedside, which is where I keep mine.” The Creme de La Mer Collection, $315, Cos Bar.

“I received the new Woman scent in the mail from A Piece A Part and it is lovely. I’ll definitely be wearing it this fall/winter and gifting to a few of my girlfriends, too.” Woman Fragrance, $98, A Piece Apart.

“Two words come to mind when I think of Sunday Riley Sulfur Mask: miracle worker! Seriously, this stuff is no joke. Because I try and test so many beauty products, my skin often reacts in the form of a slight breakout. A little dab of this sulfur-packed mask as an overnight treatment and I wake up blemishless! Of course, having an active ingredient like sulfur can be a little harsh on the nose, but totally worth it for clear skin. I’ll be slipping a tube in each of my teens stockings this Christmas, for sure.” Sunday Riley Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask, $55, Sephora.

“Oh Susanne Kaufmann, let me count the ways I love you! Every product I have even used from this line is stellar. I’m currently obsessed with the eye cream, which hydrates like no other.” Susanne Kaufmann Skin Care Line: T Eye Cream, $73, Credo.

“Foundation can be a tough one with a sea of formulas to choose from made available by each brand. This particular bottle from Dior won my heart. It goes on thin, like water, but settles with a semi-matte silky finish. Perfect for my combination skin.” Diorskin Nude Air Serum Foundation, $53, Sephora.

“I first fell hard for this magical face oil a few years ago, right after I started Mother. Since then I have gone through 2 bottles of Vintner’s Daughter, even while trying and testing out several other brands in between. I just can’t quit it and keep coming back. It’s countless rave reviews are definitely warranted! And, they just released a limited edition holiday bottle that’s 50 mls—I couldn’t be more thrilled.” Vintner’s Daughter Limited Edition Serum, $305, Net-A-Porter.

“I double cleanse after wearing makeup and find that most cream and milky formulas that follow my oil cleanser leave my skin feeling unclean. I need something that foams up a bit to feel fresh faced. This gel cleanser from Susanne Kaufmann is all-natural, as well as calming and PH-neutral and leaves me with a well-washed face before bed.” Susanne Kaufmann Cleansing Gel, $45, Credo.

“You’ve seen this Korean face mask go viral after Drew Barrymore debuted her #BeautyJunkieWeek selfie on Instagram. And since then, this all-in-one facial has exploded and is often times sold out with quite a lengthy waiting list. I, of course, had to see what all the fuss was about, and holy sh!t—this powerful player really does make my skin look and feel years younger after just one application. A+!” Multi-Action Treatment Mask, $29, Hanacure.

“Speaking of incredible products that truly live up to the hype. The Korean beauty Jelly Pack primer by J.One is yet another game changer in the beauty world. There is definitely a learning curve when using this makeup primer, but once you figure out how to apply it properly (small taps to spread over the face), your foundation or tinted moisturizer will go on flawlessly and leave you looking like you were blessed with perfect skin.” J.One Jelly Pack, $42, Sephora.

“While in San Francisco last month, I was lucky enough to grab a last-minute hair appointment and ended up chopping off 6-inches of split ends. My hair tends to grow very quickly and can end up looking quite sad, so I am trying out the Moisture & Protein Infusion 20 hair treatment from Sans [Ceuticals] a couple of times per week for extra strong, glossy, and healthy looking hair. So far, so good!” Moisture & Protein Infusion 20, $34.19, Sans [Ceuticals].

“I was recently sent some new makeup products to try from Clé de Peau and was super excited because I have heard great things about the brand. I am especially pumped about the crimson shade of lipstick and black liquid eyeliner that I can play around with for upcoming holiday parties!” Intensifying Liquid Eyeliner, $55, Clé De Peau. Dragon Red Lipstick, $65, Clé De Peau.

Navy Linen Bag, $13.75, Sans [Ceuticals].
