If you loved Michaele Simmering’s gorgeous home and peek behind the scenes of her furniture company Kalon Studio as much as we did, then we’re sure you’ll want the 4-1-1 on the ultra-hip neighborhood haunts that she and her family frequent. Read below as Michaele shares her top kid-friendly (and adult-friendly) places around Silverlake and its surrounding areas. Enjoy!

What are your favorite places in your city to…

Eat with the kids?
The Casbah Cafe, Speranza, Pine & Crane, Viet Noodle Bar, and Dinette.”

Eat with adults?
Sqirl, Cookbook, Guisados—the list could go on and on. There are dozens of amazing restaurants in LA. These are all daytime restaurants.”

Shop for kids?
Tom’s Toys, Tomboy (sadly, it just closed, but Sweet William is opening there), Olivera Street, and Kinokuniya Bookstore in Little Tokyo.”

Shop for yourself?
Tortoise, OK, Jesse Kamm, Cookbook. I get sandals from a huarache stand on Olivera Street, and I love nurseries. Some of my favorites are Theodore Payne Foundation, Sunset Nursery, and Rainforest Flora. Up by Ojai, there’s an amazing nursery called Australian Native Plants.”

Play with your children?
The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens is our favorite place. The children’s garden there is incredible. Bike riding on the Arroyo Seco. The beach, Farmer’s Markets, the Silverlake Meadow, Elysian Park, Santa Anita Canyon, and my kids love it when we take a family day at Wi Spa.”

Play with your adult friends?
“Backyards and wine.”

Get out in nature?
“The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, Santa Anita Canyon, Oak Glen, Topanga Canyon, Joshua Tree, Ojai. Or more locally, Vista Hermosa Park is a beautiful, intimate park filled with native plants. Griffith Park and Elysian Park are giant, sprawling parks. Arlington Garden in Pasadena is a lovely private garden open to the public where we go for picnics. LA is filled with places, even neighborhood streets, where you turn a corner and you’re suddenly out in nature.”

Any good museums?
The Huntington, LACMA, MOCA, Museum of Jurassic Technology, and Getty Villa. The city is filled with them.”

Where do you take out-of-town visitors?
“The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, Griffith Observatory, Hollyhock House, Gamble House, MAK Center, Getty Villa, and Laguna Beach.”

Any tourist-y places that are worth it to visit?
“The same as above, plus Olivera Street and the Grand Central Market.”
