When we think of heirloom baby gifts, our minds quickly shift to the classic silver rattle and spoon that have been a popular favorite for generations. Now, thanks to Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Sophie Buhai, we have have more options. After having her first baby in August, 2016, Buhai decided to expand beyond women’s jewelry to offer a new category: Baby.

She created a small collection of sculptural sterling silver baby accessories—a modernist baby spoon, an egg shaped rattle, a diaper pin, a hinged bangle, and some simple pearl pieces. It’s Sophie’s take on baby. Modernist silver for baby, if you will. “The collection was inspired by traditional sterling silver baby accessories that were popularized in the 19th century,” says Buhai. “I wanted to create updated versions of the classic baby spoons, rattles, and jewelry. The collection is meant to be enjoyed by both parent and baby. The spoon is just as beautiful in the babies mouth, as on the parents cheese plate. The rattle looks great resting on a coffee table, or in a babies hand. All pieces are meant to be heirlooms—perfect for gifts.”

The Sophie Buhai Baby Collection is available now on sophiebuhai.com and ranges between $125-$250. See the collection in its entirety in our slideshow, below.
