OUR EDITOR’S SUMMER 2017 BEAUTY PICKS

Written by James Kicinski-McCoy

Along with the fun in the sun that summertime brings, it also means extreme heat, harmful UV rays, and the need for an upgrade in the skincare and beauty department. Each of our picks—including drugstore bargains, luxury splurges, and great all-natural options—will take your summer routine to great new heights!

“Last week, while I was working in San Francisco, I had the chance to stop into some of the many shops the booming city has to offer, including those that carry all things beauty. I tested the new Lavender Rodin Oil and was immediately sold by the intoxicating and relaxing scent. I have always been a Rodin Oil fan, but this rendition is a new fave, and perfectly lightweight for summer months and beyond.” Lavender Rodin Oil, $170, Nordstrom.

“A good SPF is a must year-round, especially when your days are spent outside in the sun. The Daily Sunscreen from Glossier is a great option because it melts into the skin thanks to its unique water-gel formula, and won’t leave you smelling like sunblock, or make your skin feel heavy like other ultra-thick white creams.” Invisible Shield SPF 35, $34, Glossier.

“Searching for an at-home facial that you can do yourself in under 30 minutes? Look no further. The Sukuri Babyfacial from Drunk Elephant is a tiny bottle that delivers a spa-like punch and will leave your skin looking and feeling baby-soft. And, at 80 bucks, it sure beats the price of regular visits to the esthetician’s office. I’ve been using the clean-ingredient-filled formula twice a week for the past two months and highly recommend!” T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial, $80, Sephora.

“I can appreciate a moisturizer that does more than just hydrate. This clean-beauty day cream from Pai contains camomile and rose hip, which helps calm irritated skin and prevents redness. Its lightweight formula is perfect for morning and use before bed, or anytime your skin needs a little extra dose of moisture.” Pai Camomile & Rose Hip Calming Day Cream, $60, The Detox Market.

“Beauty Editor’s everywhere have declared this orangey-red hue to be the nail color of the summer, and I couldn’t agree more! Its bright lobster-like shade can be seen on nails and toes everywhere this season, including mine. This is one trend-train you should absolutely get on board with!” Essie Clambake Nail Color, $9, Macy’s.

“Love the Beauty Blender, but don’t love the steep price tag? Meet the 4-in-1 Blending Sponge from Revlon. This bullet-shaped beauty tool does it all—applies, blends, corrects, and contours—and rings in at only $8! Just saturate it under water, give it a good squeeze, and say ‘hello’ to flawless foundation.” Revlon 4-in-1 Blending Sponge, $7.99, Ulta.

“I haven’t spent a ton of time in the sun this summer due to a heavy workload, and am in need of some color. I just ordered this cream-gel bronzer after hearing rave reviews and cannot wait to receive it. A little sun-kissed look without the UV rays? Yes, please!” Soleil Tan De Chanel, $50, Nordstrom.

“These little bamboo wipes are a game changer! They’re perfect for traveling or when you’re on-the-go. They’re packed with all-natural ingredients like aloe, witch hazel, green tea, and radish root. I like to tuck a couple into my gym bag for a quick post-workout cleanse. They leave my face and neck feeling fresh and clean.” Essential Face Wipes, $24 for a pack of 20, Ursa Major.

“Your beauty routine should be more than skin deep. What you put into your body can effect how you look and feel. Along with cleaning up my diet and focusing on wellness, I’ve been adding 4-5 drops of these powerful, potent tinctures into my water each day for an extra dose of glow from within.” Beauty+Detox Water Concentrates, $39, Sakara.

“Put a stop to dry, itchy skin with this head-to-toe balm. The uses are endless—think hair mask, moisturizer, makeup remover, oil cleanser, lip balm, shave oil, and more. Its non-greasy formula literally melts into your skin and smells amazing thanks to its A-list of ingredients like coconut oil, avocado oil, mango butter, and essential oils.” Nucifera, $37, Nucifera.

“This petite palette might be my absolute favorite summer beauty product of all. It’s nearly everything you need and all in one compact set—including highlighter, bronzer, two lip2cheek colors, plus lip and skin balm. It’s the perfect mix for glowing, dewy, healthy-looking skin. Bonus points for being all natural.” RMS Signature Pop Set, $44, Sephora.

“Our bodies may sweat more then ever during these sweltering summer months, so keeping the sweat in check is a must. I’m all about non-toxic deodorant and it’s a plus if it smells like roses, too! This collab from Agent Nateur and mama Shiva Rose does the trick!” Agent Nateur No. 4 Holi Rose, $26, The Detox Market.
