With all of the holiday gifts swirling around us, a little perspective is always key. Which is why we love the work of Gabriele Galimberti. The globally-minded photographer travels the world, capturing documentary-style images of a wide variety of lives and perspectives. One of our favorite series of his is Toy Stories, which shows children from over 50 countries—from Texas to Haiti, Norway to China, Lebanon to Kenya (and beyond)—with their most prized toys. “I recorded the spontaneous and natural joy that unites kids despite their diverse backgrounds,” Galimberti, who photographed Toy Stories for over 2 years, says in his artist’s statement. “Whether the child owns a veritable fleet of miniature cars or a single stuffed monkey, the pride that they have is moving, funny, and thought provoking.” Check out a dozen of our favorite images from the series—which are all collected in the 2014 book Toy Stories: Photos of Children from Around the World and Their Favorite Things and also on Galimberti’s site—below.
