Go-To Style Tips When You Only Have Five Minutes

Let’s face it—for most of us moms, we are going to be rushing out the door for the next eighteen years (or more!). And no matter how organized you keep your entryway, how meticulous you meal plan, or even how early you wakeup, the last thing to get checked off the list is probably going to be you. Have no fear. We’ve put together a quick and realistic survival guide to ensure that no matter what whirlwind-chaotic-overwhelming morning (or day) you’re having, you’re going to feel chic for the rest of it!
Rule 1. Mind Your Maintenance
Tint and wax your brows. Develop a regular skincare regimen. Stay up-to-date with your cuts and colors. Get a blowout every once in a while (great hair for 4-5 days!), etc. If your bases are covered, you’ll feel good and you’ll need to do much less to get out the door. Extra credit: Use a Clarisonic. It’s like a daily facial and it’ll help you have smooth, even, and baby-like skin.
Rule 2. Just A Little Dab Will Do Ya
When it comes to makeup, often we just don’t have the time. Make sure you always have the following three things on hand: A good concealer to cover up any tired eyes or hormonal acne. Mascara. Lipstick. From a great classic red to the trending darker lip, you’ll look like SuperMom! Extra credit: Keep a spare set of concealer, mascara, and a favorite lipstick in your purse in case of an emergency.
Rule 3. Tame The Mane
Even those of us with the most beautiful hair often suffer from bedhead, pesky flyaways, or lack of time to style (or, let’s be honest, even shower). Hair plays a big role in our overall look. But the good news is, there are ways to avoid spending precious minutes on unruly locks. Get a good dry shampoo to help when a wash isn’t in the cards and then throw it in a top-knot, braid, or under a cute hat. Whatever you do, don’t over think it. Extra credit: Find a good hair clip.
Rule 4. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silly)
Be ruthless with your wardrobe. If you only buy what you love and keep what you know fits, then there isn’t a need for the trying on, throwing off, scoff, routine. Edit your wardrobe. Figure out a uniform—a go-to outfit you know you’ll feel and look good in at all times. Lucky for us, style trends right now are very mom-life friendly. Grab some high-wasted jeans, a t-shirt, and an oversized blazer or trench. Or choose a simple shirt dress, cardigan, and cute sneakers. Extra credit: Don’t forget good shoes! They make or break an outfit (or an ankle), so choose accordingly. (Check out these stylish flats we love for inspiration!)
Rule 5. Just Breathe
At the end of the day, being on time won’t really matter (unless you’re missing a flight for a getaway!). It’ll matter that your kids got the note in their lunch box, that you had that extra 15 minutes of nursing/cuddling time, and that you remembered to pay the phone bill. You’re a great mom and you’re super chic! Extra credit: Plan that getaway, now.
