Hanna Andersson is giving Mother a first look at her latest range for tots, and we don’t think it could get much cuter! Bright Baby Basics is a new collection inspired by the very first Hanna design over thirty years ago. The design team went back to its archives and reworked the original striped baby apparel from when the line was founded by a Swedish woman named Gun Denhart in 1983. Why stripes? They’re very iconic in Sweden and infants and tots there have been in stripes for generations—in fact, an intrinsic part of babyhood in Sweden is wearing stripes.

“I learned this when my daughter was born 5 years ago and all the gifts I received from my Swedish husband’s family were all striped,” Tracy Watson-Hjertberg, Hanna’s merchandising manager, tells Mother. “‘What is the thing with babies in stripes?’ I asked him at the time—and he explained, ‘Well it’s just how we do it in Sweden, and then it is very nostalgic for everyone when they see a baby in stripes—you are instantly brought back to your childhood.’”

The line is made from 100% pure organic cotton ribknit and is oeko-tex certified. Oeko-tex is an extremely strict European ecological certification process that tests garments for over 100 harmful substances. In order for a garment to be certified, every fabric, button, thread and zipper is tested, and the result is especially easy on children’s skin. Talk about peace of mind!

The range fits babies size newborn to age three and is priced between $10-$24. Bright Baby Basics launches July 6th and will be available at hannaandersson.com.
