You know that moment when you realize a child is living your adult fantasy? Such is the case when news broke that 4-year-old internet star Mayhem just designed a collection for J.Crew. Yep. A 4-year-old.

If you haven’t checked out the Fashion By Mayhem blog or Instagram stream, you’re in for a treat. Basically, the fashion-obsessed tot Mayhem (it’s her nickname) and her creative mama Angie Kaiser dream up the most stunning paper dresses (including some key red-carpet recreations that made them internet famous) and Mayhem models them. It’s a simple and winning formula that caught the eye of J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons, who shared her love for Mayhem on the company’s blog.

As Kaiser then explains it, she received an email from Lyons herself in February, asking if the pair would be interested in designing a capsule collection for Summer 2015. Naturally, the answer was a resounding yes. Kaiser explains the “design process” below:

“…Let’s not even call it designing a collection. Here’s how it went down … Mayhem and her new crew all sat down on the floor and played. And made stuff. Out of paper and tape and beads and glue and crayons. And they laughed and hugged and had more fun than I would have imagined. And then they sprinkled their magic J.Crew fairydust on it and turned paper into fabric. And when it was time to go, Mayhem cried. Because she didn’t want to leave.”

Over on J.Crew’s blog, you can get a behind-the-scenes peak of the soon-to-come collection, which looks like it will feature bejeweled tees, crowns, and necklaces, dresses with metallic and neon stripes, a scarf dripping in pom-poms, and a palm-print romper, amongst other wonders. Mayhem also assured all the pieces have a high “twirlability” factor. Quite honestly, we can’t wait to see the results!
