As our lives become busier, our time to enjoy “move night” becomes more compromised. And when we do find that rare evening to watch a film, we want it to be a great one. So, we’re excited to learn about the new Bill Murray flick, St. Vincent, since we pretty much love every movie he’s ever made.

The synopsis: St. Vincent is about a disgruntled retiree who becomes the unlikely babysitter to a neighbor’s young son. Writer/director Theodore Melfi was inspired to write the film when his brother passed away and he and his wife adopted his niece. After enrolling her in a parochial school, one of her homework assignments was to write about a Catholic saint, and to also choose a person who embodied the same saintly spirit. She chose the patron saint of adopted children—and, to Melfi’s surprise, she also chose him.

While we’ve seen our share of movies about grumpy men who turn out to have hearts of gold, the trailer for this film promises a remarkable story with just the right balance of comedy and sentiment. And with what looks like exceptional performances from a cast that includes Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, and Chris O’Dowd (in addition to Murray) we’re especially looking forward to planning this “movie night”.

St. Vincent is now playing in select theaters and everywhere on October 24th. Check listings here.
