For anyone who has ever worried that your age will threaten your motivation to be stylish, we have a film that should put your concerns to rest, and hopefully even inspire you. Advanced Style is a documentary film by Lina Plioplyte and Ari Seth Cohen, based on the popular street-style photography blog of the same name that Cohen created four years ago.

Cohen, a street fashion photographer, grew up close with his grandmothers and he developed an enormous appreciation for older women and the rare wisdom and fashion sense they have. Wanting to shine his lens on these often ignored muses, Cohen started his blog photographing clothing-obsessed seniors, and “Advanced Style” quickly became a phenomenon in the fashion world.

The documentary follows Cohen as he takes to the streets of New York to find and photograph unique and beautiful women over the age of 60. His journey is interwoven with interviews with fashion icons like Iris Apfel and Dita Von Teese, and the film also explores why our youth-obsessed culture overlooks the very same people we should be admiring and celebrating.

Cohen and Plioplyte offer a charming and insightful film that proves you can and should celebrate your style and self at any age. And we love that the women featured in the film are daring, brave, and most importantly—real.

Advanced Style opened in theaters September 26. Check local listings here.
