Bursting with color and playful design elements, Bobo Choses' new boutique in Barcelona is a sight to behold.
It’s not particularly common to find spaces that truly intersect high-end design with play. More often than not, design-forward environments come with a “hey, don’t touch that” or a “back up a bit” kind of vibe—which can be a bummer if you’re a kid. After all, it’s basically your job to dive in and explore.
So, when an interior is crafted with creativity and a child’s perspective at the forefront, and done in a way that’s lovely to look at, it’s a notable find.
This is why we’re so drawn to the new Bobo Choses’ flagship store. The cult-followed Spanish brand, which is known for its vivid garments for both kids and adults, recently opened up a 2,700 square-foot shop in Barcelona—and it’s nothing shy of a color-packed wonderland. With thoughtful accents for both kids and adults, fun runs through every crevice of the historic property.
“When we were looking for premises for the new flagship store, we knew we would need to find a big space where many things could happen and everyone would feel comfortable,” founder and creative director Adriana Esperalba shares.
“When I was little, I remember going to buy shoes in a store where there were wooden horses that came out of the wall as if they were part of a carousel—you could climb up while you tried on the shoes. It was an experience,” she says. “At Bobo Choses, we don’t just want to reach people through clothes, but also through experiences.”

An experience is definitely what you get. Guests are greeted by a historic facade with a face-shaped curtain leading into the shop, setting the tone for the good times ahead. Once you’re in, you’ll see the store is a bit business in front, party in back—with most of the clothing and accessories thoughtfully placed between artful objects and accents (like a Noguchi floor lamp and a Zaven tube chair) toward the entrance. The dimensional shelving was inherited from the fabric store that previously occupied the space for 78 years, and is now a historical emblem and is therefore protected—so the team restored and left them in their natural color.

As you make your way toward the back, you’re greeted by a giant Bobo Choses sweater with two 13-foot-long arms. “When you’re a child you see everything huge and I wanted to have that feeling as an adult,” Esperalba says about the inspiration for the oversized accent, which is beloved by both children and grown-ups.
“We wanted the space to be like a creative hub where art, fun, and fashion come together.”

A giant playmat can be found in the shop, too—giving shoppers an opportunity to move around and get creative. “It is designed as if it were a pizza in the shape of a face. Children can move the pillows and create new faces or anything else they imagine,” Esperalba says.

Beyond the play-themed pieces, no design detail is overlooked. A tapestry by Luna Muñoz Casa Chinchilla made in collaboration with the brand hangs above an oversized dresser, black and white striped fabric covers the plastered dressing nooks (with Hay sconces placed within them), a back workshop area with a stylish table and chairs rests below a vintage sconce, along with a bathroom clad in a maple-toned Ferrés tile and Bobo Choses artwork.
Play shouldn’t feel restricted to just little ones—even adults have much to gain from embracing it and Bobo Choses fully gets that, as evidenced by this new locale. “It is essential to find these spaces where people feel inspired and connected,” Esperalba explains. "We wanted the space to be like a creative hub where art, fun, and fashion come together.”
