Our Editors’ Holiday Wish Lists

Written by James Kicinski-McCoy

We’ve been busy putting together our annual holiday gift guides, which are chock-full of great ideas for everyone on your list, young and old. But, today we’re taking a little break to share what’s on our own personal wish lists! From cozy and practical gifts to more luxurious items that we like to daydream about, we’ve compiled a list of needs and wants that are just too good not to share. ‘Tis the season!

Katie:
“A good pair of flats is always a closet staple for me. I especially love slip-ons for those times (pretty much all the time) when I’m rushing out the door for preschool drop-off or pick-up. I’ve always been a big pink fan and I’m so glad the color is currently having a major fashion moment.” Slip-On Sneakers, $50, Vans.

“I not only gifted this book to four people this holiday season, I also added it on my own wish list! It’s such a great guided journal that helps you go deep fast. I also recommend the author’s Parenthood Listography book, too.” Spirit Listography, $11.52, Amazon.

“I recently had my kitchen revamped by Blisshaus, which is an incredible organization service that not only makes your shelves and cupboards beautiful, but eco, thanks to its zero-waste mission. So, 2017 will be about challenging myself to grocery shop less by buying in bulk and hitting the farmer’s market for weekly essentials. This beautiful local food wheel would help me get inspired while menu planning and help teach my son—and myself—about what’s in season.” Local Food Wheel (SF/BayArea), $16, Etsy.

“Much to the chagrin of my husband, I am a total magazine hoarder. I am trying to slowly get rid of some, but at the same time, there is so much good stuff out there, that it’s hard to not add another subscription to my pile!” The Gentlewoman Subscription, $40, Magazines.com.

“Onsen is a beautiful new Japan-style bath house/tea house in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood that I am really digging. It’s a great place to unplug (literally…no cell phones allowed!), soak, steam, relax, and get tea and dinner afterwards. It’s also really affordable at $30 for 2 hours of pool access. It’s an ideal spot for a friend date, spouse date, or solo date. I’m anxious to get back, especially once they launch massage services.” Experience at Onsen, prices vary, Onsen SF.

“Our profile on Lisa Fine of Quiet Town was one of my favorites. There was something so funny about her answers that I found myself laughing out loud while editing it. I am also super inspired by her brand and I’m excited to add some color to my tiny bathroom through Quiet Town’s vibrant shower curtains and bath rugs.” Narlai Sunset Shower Curtain, $198, Quiet Town. Topanga Night Ride Rug, $62, Quiet Town.

“I’m really looking forward to some adult slumber parties and getaways my best girlfriends and I have planned for early 2017. A cute pair of PJs would only add to the fun.” Vintage Short-Sleeve Pajama Set, $85, J.Crew.

“My friends Trina and Sheri pick out the very best baubles for their tiny jewel box of a shop, Metier. I’m a sucker for anything blue and sparkly, so this ring is really calling my name.” B.C.E. Jewelry 14k Trillion Cut Blue Sapphire Ring, $384, Metier.

“I’m hoping to add a family trip to Kauai or Sayulita into my 2017 calendar, and some girlfriend trips to New York and Palm Springs.” Airline Tickets, prices vary, Airlines vary.

“Something cute to satisfy my aforementioned affinity for blue, and to celebrate the fact that my son is finally falling asleep in his own bed (instead of mine) after a year of co-sleeping!” Araks Yanelis Bralett, $85.99, Need Supply Co.

“The year ahead is going to be a big one for me, with lots of travel and new projects on the horizon. Organization is going to be key to my sanity!” 2017 Planner, $32, Tictail.

“We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I can’t help but want to stock-up with a few new pieces of pottery from some of my favorite ceramicists. A couple of mugs from Helen Levi and this beautiful bowl by Victoria Morris would look so nice on our soon-to-be new open shelving.” Helen Levi Beach Series Mug, $68, Two Son. Victoria Morris XL Bowl, $375, Jenni Kayne.

“Another thing for the new kitchen space—these cute waffle pot holders. They’re practical, simple, and neutral.” Waffle Hot Pad, $22, More & Co.

“I have been ogling over this gorgeous sterling silver egg pendant since the day I saw it. I love its sleek, classic look and that it comes with a longer chain.” Egg Pendant, $650, Sophie Buhai.

“My feet are always cold—always. I need a new pair of warm and cozy house slippers to keep my toes extra cozy all winter long.” Shearling Slipper, $110, Toast.

“We have all-white linen bedding, and although I love the bright and clean look, I am ready for a little change in the bedroom and perhaps a pop of color. These blush linen pillowcases would do the trick.” Simple Linen Pillowcases, $98, Need Supply Co.

“I need a new pair of winter boots that will last for years to come! My mom had these exact ones when I was a kid and wore them for nearly two decades. They are 100% waterproof and made with extreme quality and comfort. I think it’s time I got a pair of my own.” Danner Women’s Mountain Light Cascade Hiking Boot, $359.95, Amazon.

“I do not have much of a sweet tooth. I’d rather skip dessert and indulge in another savory side, any day. That said, when a craving does come, I am a sucker for these tiny ZenBunni Chocolates. They are handcrafted in L.A. with cacao, herbs, spices, and oils and are such a treat.” ZenBunni Chocolates, $30, Amazon.

“I love a good candle. Especially one that comes with a decent price tag. This full-sized burner from Maison Louis Marie smells amazing and won’t break the bank.” Maison Louis Marie Cassis Candle, $34, Two Son.

“Last month, for our 5th wedding anniversary, my husband surprised me with a weekend staycation at a cool, new hotel here in Nashville. He planned it all—childcare, a reservation for every meal, and a couples spa package and didn’t tell me until the morning of. It was such a beautiful and thoughtful surprise. I wouldn’t mind another weekend close to home with my honey.” Thompson Hotel Nashville, prices vary, Thompson Hotels.

“We profiled Julie O’Rourke of Rudy Jude and she makes the most incredible thermals for kids out of organic cotton. Not only is the fit spot on, but the color palette is insane. I seriously stare at my little kids when they wear them and wish they came in my size.” Signature Thermals, $98, Rudy Jude.

“Being the beauty product lover that I am, I’ve got to add the latest and greatest from Glossier to my list. Makes an amazing gift for a girlfriend, too.” Black Tie Set, $50, Glossier.

“I was a little skeptical putting this one on the list, but it is a ‘wish list’, isn’t it? I have been dreaming and lusting over this insanely cool leather and shearling winter jacket for YEARS! Hoping that one day it will be hanging in my closet. A girl can wish, right?” Velocite Shearling Jacket, $2800, Acne Studios.
