Our Mother’s Day Wish Lists
Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano
One of our favorite holidays (and also our namesake of sorts), Mother’s Day, is just two weeks a way. With it, of course, comes our annual Editor’s Picks tailored to the mama-centric weekend. This year we partnered with PayPal to help our fellow ladies get exactly what they want this Mother’s Day. All you have to do is share a message or image about what’s on your wish list on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook and use the hashtag #ultimatemomsday for the chance to have PayPal #paypalit for you. Yep, that’s right, it’s all yours, no strings (or money) attached. Use the hashtag as many times as you want, through Wednesday, May 6th. Good luck!
Now, onto our wants of the moment…
Katie’s Picks:
“I am so impressed by the new-ish magazine CherryBombe, which celebrates women doing cool things in the food industry. I would love a subscription so I don’t always have to shell out for newsstand prices.”
Two-Year CherryBombe Subscription, $75, CherryBombe.
“How cute is this doormat? Such a nice way to greet visitors to the Zambrano casa.”
Hola Doormat, $50, Reed Wilson Design.
“A massage at my favorite local spa, International Orange, is always at the top of my list. I love to book it early in the day, then spend hours reading its amazing selection of magazines on the patio afterwards.”
International Orange 90-Minute Essential Oil Massage, $190, International Orange.
“I love the shop General Store in the Outer Sunset and a gift certificate would allow me to peruse the gorgeous space and get exactly what I want.”
General Store Gift Certificate, $25 and up, General Store.
“I am not much of a green thumb, but I’ve been able to keep one plant alive in my home, and I’m looking to add a little sister.”
Pinched and Glazed Planter, $40, Leif.
“I’m always looking for a good-looking ways to corral all of Diego’s toys in our living room. This basket would do the trick.”
Blue Cascade Woven Water Hyacinth Basket, $208.20, Caron’s Beach House.
“These posters are currently being plastered all around San Francisco in memory of artist Susan O’Malley. I was recently given one and plan to hang it in Diego’s room. The message is such a good daily reminder to see the world with open, grateful eyes.”
Free posters available at Romer Young Gallery, The Thing Quarterly, Chronicle Books, Hang Art, Kala, SJ ICA, Palo Alto Art Center, and Imprint Projects in NYC.
“One of the most heart-warming experiences of late is having a little mini-date with Diego at a local coffee shop or juice stand (we like Martha & Bros and Sidewalk Juice). He sits on a chair with his little feet dangling, eating pound cake and drinking milk through a straw. It’s just the cutest. More simple times like this are definitely on my low-cost wishlist.”
James’ Picks:
“Now that spring has arrived in Nashville (knock on wood—our weather is schizophrenic!), it’s time to pack away the heavy sweaters and layer with something light-weight. This embroidered sunset shirt is perfect to throw over a casual spring dress or wear with my favorite pair of jeans.”
JM Drygoods and Madewell Yucat¡n Sunset shirt, $198, Madewell.
“Katie and I are jonesing for a vacation together, with our families. We’ve had our eyes on Mexico or the incredible Amangiri Resort in Utah. A girl can dream, right? It would be such a memorable experience!”
Amangri Resort, prices vary, Aman Resorts.
“One thing that I am a total sucker for—and that doesn’t really cost a thing—is a 2-hour stretch of time on a weeknight evening, so I can soak in the tub, sip some Malbec, and read in solitude. This bath tea would be a great addition to the water!”
Oat Milk Bath Tea, $14, Fig + Yarrow.
“Gimme underwear! There is nothing quite like a new pair of pretty and delicate skivvies to make a woman feel sexy. Anything by Base Range or from Journelle will do, but no thongs please. I left those days in my twenties!”
“Even though I have no idea how I would fit this into my crazy-hectic schedule, I would love a month of Barre classes. We have a tropical family trip coming up in the near future and I would love to sweat like crazy and tone up a little bit before we hit the sand.”
Pure Barre Gift Certificate, prices vary, Pure Barre.
“This may sound silly, but I really want new pillows for our bed. We recently stayed with some friends and I can’t stop thinking about their amazingly comfortable pillows! Four please.”
Primaloft Deluxe Pillow, $40 and up, The Company Store.
“We need some new art in the house. I could search for art pieces for days, but I stumbled upon this cute Bobby Pins print recently and think it would be perfect for the upstairs bathroom, shared by my girls. It’s simple, yet adds a touch of feminine without being too girlie, since my daughter Plum is a self-proclaimed tomboy.”
Bobby Pins Print, $24, Leif.
