Mother Essentials: Sweta Doshi

Written by Erin Feher

What’s sweeter than a baby right out of the bath? Not much, expect maybe a post-bath baby covered in sweet-smelling coconut oil. For this week’s Mother Essentials, we are spotlighting the founder of Bubbsi, a brand-new line of lotions, creams, and baby washes that are all about the coconut. Swetha Doshi is a New York City–based mom of two (Alekh, 5, and Juhi, 2) who has spent more than a decade working in the beauty industry. After launching several successful product lines for companies such as Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret, she created Bubbsi with the desire to bring more fun, better ingredients, and some sweet rituals to that precious post-bath time. Kids of all ages love to grasp and squeeze the super soft, critter-shaped, refillable silicon bottles, and parents love Bubbsi‘s unique whipped formulations that have dispensed with the mess of traditional oils. We asked Sweta to tell us what other products and practices she and her kids turn to daily—check out all 16 of her picks below!

Banila Co. Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm. “This unique oil face cleanser has an amazing sorbet-like texture and leaves my face feeling clean and so soft.” Banila Co. Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm, $17.03, Amazon.

Moana Soundtrack. “Yup, this still hasn’t gotten old in our house. Juhi and I have nightly dance performances to ‘How Far I’ll Go.'” Moana Soundtrack $11.49, Amazon.

Alice + Hops Liberty of London Print Hair Ties. “On good days, we accessorize Juhi’s pigtails with these adorable hair ties, that are handmade by a mama! And we love to #shopsmall.” Alice + Hops Charlie Set, $30, Alice + Hops.

The Softest PJs. “I was gifted these pajamas for both kids, and now we’re obsessed. Super soft organic cotton, great quality, and fun modern prints. With the amount of time my kids spend in PJs, they’ve got to be good!” Organic Two-Piece Pajama Set, $52, 12|12.

Fresh Sugar Lip Balm. “I don’t take lip balms lightly and this one is the real deal. The formula is super soft, not sticky, ultra-moisturizing, and I love the slight blush it gives my lips.” Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose, $24, Sephora.

Bubbsi Whipped Coconut Oil Body Cream. “The most luxurious moisturizer for your little ones. This coconut oil face and body cream is rich, yet non-greasy and fast-absorbing, leaving skin snuggly soft. Plus kiddos love our soft squeezy panda bottle!” Whipped Coconut Oil Body Cream, $22, Bubbsi.

Kendra Scott Elaina Bracelet. “I don’t wear much jewelry, but this was a gift from a good girlfriend and it’s beautiful. I love layering it with a few other bracelets as a finishing touch to a date night outfit.” Elaina Rose Gold Adjustable Chain Bracelet, $65, Kendra Scott.

Bees Knees. “My cocktail of choice. Gin, lemon juice, and just enough honey to make it refreshing and not super sweet. Perfect for a summer evening!” Bees Knees Cocktail, Saveur.

Instant Pot. “I don’t have time to cook elaborate weekday meals, so I’m now queen of the one-pot-meal. The possibilities are endless with this multi-tasker, but my faves are hearty soups—lentil, chili mac-and-cheese, minestrone—and Indian curries.” Instant Pot Duo, $77.68, Amazon.

Lego Duplo Starter Set. “My kids can spend hours (quietly!) building with these, and Alekh’s creativity with his structures continues to astound me. This is my go-to gift for second birthdays.” LEGO Duplo Creative Play All-in-One-Box-of-Fun, $29.98, Amazon.

Inky the Octopus. “This fictionalized version of a real-life octopus escape from a New Zealand aquarium is a new favorite in our house. The fun facts at the end have prompted all sorts of exploration and learning, and we now YouTube ‘octopus escapes’ for fun.” Inky the Octopus: Bound For Glory, by by Erin Guendelsberger, $13.67, Amazon.

The Ultimate Bento. “This lunchbox has compartments that make it easy to pack a well-rounded lunch for my little ones. The stainless steel makes it durable, nontoxic, and dishwasher friendly.” PlanetBox Rove, $55.95, PlanetBox.

Athleta Chelsea Cargo Pants. “I live in these pants all summer. They’re the perfect mix of flattering, but still comfy and functional. And since I go between work and kids often, I need cute clothes that multitask.” Chelsea Cargo Pant, $66.99, Athleta.

Upgraded Curling Iron. “I recently replaced my ancient curling iron with this one, and it’s been life-changing. It heats quickly, never catches my hair, and is the perfect diameter for that effortless wavy look.” Bestope Ceramic Tourmaline Coating Curling Wand, $26.99, Amazon.

CorePower Yoga. “I try to catch a class 2-to-3 times a week. The sculpt classes are great strength and flexibility training, or I opt for their level 2 flow class for some serious pose work in intense heat. Sometimes it’s the only way I can get my mind off work!” CorePower Yoga.

Floral Maxi Dress. “Maxi dresses are the perfect mom uniform, and this is a favorite in my closet. I love the soft lavender color, all-over floral print, and the mid-length sleeves that make it a year-round piece.” Pamelina Maxi Misa Dress, $370, Gloria Jewel.
