When you hear the word “dad shoe”—images of chunky athletic sneakers instantly come to mind. But what about the same thing for moms? Hike Clerb founder and mom of two Evelynn Escobar is answering this style challenge with her brand-new sneaker: the Evelynn World x Saucony ProGrid Triumph 4 (a.k.a. “the mom shoe”). Naturally, we couldn’t be more excited.

For the Los Angeles-based creator and community-builder, the act of mothering is nuanced. “Mothering is a way of being, not something limited to giving birth,” she says. “It’s nurturing something, protecting it, helping it grow, and making people feel cared for and seen. We celebrate so many forms of achievement, but the everyday work of care is often invisible and undervalued. I wanted to make something that honors that.”

The shoe “for everyone who nurtures” (dudes included) is a medley of colors—from dusty pastels and silver to deep burgundy and lime—and even has an inspirational quote on the insoles (“I am a portal of light, love, abundance, and creation.”) The extra-inclusive angle makes sense for Escobar, whose nonprofit, Hike Clerb, is a place where thousands of Black, Indigenous women, and gender-expansive folks of color have gathered since 2017 to experience greater representation and a sense of belonging in the outdoors.

Below, we asked the inspiring and passionate mama who’s currently raising two daughters under 5 (read more about her work and her “why” here) to share her top Mother Essentials of the moment—including her new shoe (of course), on-the-go snacks, and a shout-out to the one and only Ms. Rachel.
