Mother Essentials: Hilary Swank
Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano
Many of us know Hilary Swank as an Academy Award-winning actress, film producer, and humanitarian. And, in March 2023, she also added “mother” to her list of life roles. Alongside her husband Philip Schneider, she welcomed her twins—Aya and Ohm—making headlines as a first-time mom at 48 and describing her journey into motherhood as “the most extraordinary thing in the world.” Now deep in toddler-mom life, she’s also been named Chief Innovative Officer of HealthyBaby, which figures into her consciously curated list of Mother Essentials, below!
HealthyBaby EWG Verified Diapers. “These are the only diapers I trust because they have a real certification that creates a new standard within the diaper category.” Monthly Diaper Subscription, $87.50, HealthyBaby.
Madewell Jeans. “My lifelong ride or die jeans!” The Balloon Jean, $148, Madewell.
Nuna Car Seats. “I couldn’t believe how hard it was choosing the next stage of car seats when the babies’ outgrew their infant stage seats. After a TON of research, we went with the Nuna Revv seats and they are wonderful.” Nuna Revv Carseat, $650, Nuna.
Biking. “Living in the Pacific Northwest is such a treat, especially in the summer. We love getting on the trails and backroads with our electric Rad bikes with the twins riding in their Thule seats on the back.” Thule Yepp 2 Maxi Rack Mount Stroller, $229.99, Target.
Oura Ring. “I love tracking not only my sleep activity and physical activity but also how my body recovers and responds to stress. I particularly love my Oura ring because it tailors my activity goal based on how my body is recovering and, as we know, every day is different and should be treated as such.” Oura Ring, $349, Oura Ring.
HealthyBaby Gentle Nose and Face Wipes. “These EWG verified wipes use a saline solution to break down mucus and they’re the only wipes I’ve tried that don’t irritate my babies’ precious skin!” Gentle Nose & Face Wipes, $12, HealthyBaby.
Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals. “I love everything Eminence, but their sun defense line is a must for every day.” Sun Defense Minerals, $58, Dermstore.
Millsie Vegan Cheese. “This small Canada-based company found the secret recipe for vegan cheese that tastes even better than the real thing. Thankfully we’re close to the border and can get our fix!” millsie.com
Bush Acres Bench. “We found this incredible family-driven, women-owned company that makes kid furniture and made a bench so the twins can put their own shoes on. It’s such a simple thing that brings them such joy in being independent and having their own designated spot to do so.” MONTY Bench, $199, Bush Acres.
Four Reasons Dry Shampoo. “The most natural dry shampoo I’ve found that actually works, great for those days you just can’t fit a hair wash in.” Four Reasons Sensitive Dry Shampoo, $26, No Nothing.
Central Milling Co. “I’ve been making my own sourdough bread for a couple years now, as it’s so much healthier and nutritious. But I’ve recently started milling my own flour and it’s been a game changer! Central Milling Flour is also organic, which is a must, for grains especially.” CentralMilling.com
