Black Nail Polish: Yay Or Nay?

Originally worn by the likes of Morticia Adams and made popular by punk-rock kids in the eighties, painting one’s nails black has been a thing for decades. And while some mamas (ahem, us) are big fans of noir digits, we sometimes wonder, “Is black, whack?” Most moms who drop their kids off at daycare aren’t sporting the gothic shade, but we think it’s all in the way you wear it. For example: We think it’s best on short nails, and if you keep it freshly painted and non-chipped, it can compliment even the most sophisticated look and come off looking a little bit sexy and mysterious.
While we are Team Black Polish over here at Mother, we are becoming a little more partial to an almost-black shade that has a deep plum undertone. Two of our faves are Lincoln Park After Dark by O.P.I. and Wicked by Essie. They go on rich and glossy and give the black inky look without being too harsh.
What do you think? Would you rock black or almost black polish?
