We’ve already let you know about the hottest baby names of 2025 (Charlotte, Violet, Theodore, Felix, and nearly 200 others). And while fresh-feeling monikers are being ushered in by a new generation of parents, there’s also a group of names that is being pushed down the ranks into retirement or—as BabyCenter puts it—possible extinction! In its latest report from the front lines of the baby-naming game, the site lists 40 baby names at risk of going extinct. This include classic ’80s babies names like Jamie, Erin, Kelsey, Kendra, and Taylor, nickname-y names like Katie, Danny, Billy, Andy, and Liv, and royal-inspired names like Catherine, Albert, Anne, Phillip, and Edward.
But, as we all know, sometimes the least-fashionable names will be back on top before we know it. (So, maybe it’s time to lean into some of these unpopular names instead of shoo them away).
