The 100 Baby Names At Risk Of “Going Extinct” In 2026

We’ve already told you about the 10 hottest 2026 baby name trends: from showgirl-inspired monikers (thanks, Taylor Swift) to so-called “boomer” names stealing the spotlight. But while lots of names are climbing the charts, there’s another group quietly sliding in the opposite direction. According to BabyCenter’s latest analysis of the names parents are choosing (and ditching), there are 100 baby names at risk of “going extinct” in 2026—meaning they’ve fallen dramatically in popularity and could soon disappear from the naming landscape altogether.

By examining year-over-year changes among the top 1,000 baby names, BabyCenter identified which once-popular picks saw the steepest declines between 2024 and 2025—offering a clear snapshot of the styles and sounds parents are moving away from right now.

The results? BabyCenter says unique spellings are officially uncool, with nontraditional versions of familiar favorites like Charleigh, Alivia, Maddison, Emmitt, and Mohamad slipping fast. Place-inspired names are also losing momentum, with London, Malaysia, and Dallas down for girls and Boston dropping for boys.

The shift continues with boy names ending in “-y”, including Huxley, Grady, Rey, Corey, and Harry, all sliding down the rankings. And once-popular names that start with D and K are being left behind too—from Danielle and Dylan to Dominic, Dev, Kylian, and Karim.

Of course, baby name trends are famously cyclical. The names that feel dated today may be right on time tomorrow—so if one of these endangered picks has your heart, consider this your moment to bring it back.

Check out the 100 least popular baby names names of 2026, according to Babycenter, below.
