It might seem like the words supermodel and motherhood wouldn’t quite go together with the expectations of balancing a flourishing career, but one mom proves it possible. Well-known model and mama of three (and obvious winner of the genetic lottery) Maggie Rizer has graced spreads and covers of Vogue, Elle, Lucky, and the like, all while staying true to her roots. The San Ramon Valley-based mama recently made a stunning comeback to runway and print and we were able to catch up to get the lowdown on her morning routine, from coffee and breakfast to skincare and style.
-
"My morning routine is basically a marathon from the time I wake up to the time the boys have their first activity and the baby has her first nap. I wake up, make breakfast, get everyone dressed and out the door and down for a nap. Never a dull moment!"
Maggie wears Stella McCartney pajamas.
- "It's nothing like it was before having kids. I used to sleep in, shower alone, and drink a coffee or two while I woke up. Way too boring for me!"
- Bathroom envy!
- "Do moms seriously have skincare routines? I have a lot of products, but usually only get to use them at night, or I splash a little bit of this-or-that on my I face as I'm running out the door. My favorites are the La Prarie Cellular Hydrating Serum, La Prarie Cellular Time Release Moisturizer, and Clark's Botanicals Deep Moisture Mask, which is amazing! It smells so nice and leaves your skin feeling so gorgeous. For my hair routine, I’m slightly obsessed with coloring my hair and have been since I started working. I color it every four weeks and by the fourth week, I'm going crazy to have it redone. As far as regular care, I shampoo and condition every other day. Personally, I don't like an over manicured look. If I do get to shampoo, I just let it air dry or tie it in a bun before bed. A friend of mine actually just showed me the trick of how to tie your hair in a bun at night to make it full and gorgeous the next morning. I'm still in shock that I only just learned that trick!"
- "I'm not big into daily hair or makeup. I guess it's because for me, getting all done up is work (yes, poor me). I think women look most beautiful when they're natural. Also, makeup can easily become really overpowering—not in a good way. I usually moisturize, then use a touch of Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, and curl my eyelashes—when I remember."
- "Luckily for me, all the kids love baths and showers—so much that they usually get in with me. It's great when I can shower alone, but a shower is a shower these days. I love products! I use the Shu Uemura Color Shampoo and Conditioner, which is amazing for keeping colored-hair vibrant."
- Dreamy closet!
- "I wouldn't consider myself an early bird or a night owl, even pre-kids. In an ideal world, I would go to bed at 10pm and wake up around 7:30am."
- Bits and pieces.
- "In my world, I go to bed anywhere between 8-10pm. I'm up a few times during the night to zap monsters (or Pete from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse—who knew?), but I'm officially up anywhere between 4:45-7am. My bedtime is based on wake-up time."
-
"Are you kidding? First of all, there are no tricks and even if there are, I have no energy left at night to even try!"
Maggie wears a blue Chanel top, Stella McCartney jeans, and Saint Laurent boots.
- Outfits for days.
- "Usually one of our boys is crying because of something the other boy did, so it's trying to manage the situation. Then coffee!"
- "We usually have around an hour and a half to get out the door. It sounds like a lot of time, but to feed and dress everyone (myself included on ideal days) we have to move it along. Our son Clancy usually wants eggs for breakfast and our son Zander wants pancakes. The baby Cecilia is usually happy with a combination of whatever the boys are having. After the gourmet breakfast is served, Clancy usually decides he'd rather have something else and then chaos slowly begins to unfold. While I'm trying to wake up, the kids play, the dog eats the breakfast off the kitchen table, and the kids start getting dressed. Hopefully somewhere in there I get to shower and get dressed, too!"
- "For me, it's usually a lot of coffee and some of Zander's pancakes on the weekdays. On the weekends, my husband usually makes breakfast, so it's waffles and/or eggs."
- "Yes, chasing the kids."
-
"Strong, with a little half-and-half and one sugar."
Maggie wears an ombre Missoni cardigan.
- A strong cup of java.
- "Yep! If we're on vacation or spending time at the pool, I'll put my hair in a knot and use sunscreen instead of tinted moisturizer, but otherwise, my look is pretty standard."
- "Make sure I know where all my kids are!"
