Inside A Mega-Colorful (And Super-Inspiring) Shared Bedroom

A lot has happened since Chloe Fleury first graced our digital pages back in 2015. Today the French-born artist is mother to two daughters (Lula, 8, and Anouk, 5), and has settled into a stunning new home in Los Angeles, after stints in Mexico and San Francisco. The family’s brand-new abode is filled with light and tons of color, which made it the perfect backdrop to showcase the latest jungle-themed bedding collection from Rookie Humans.
Founded by a fellow art-obsessed mother of two, Rookie Humans is all about making your kid’s sweetest sleeping moments even more precious with an array of sheets, comforters, pillows, swaddles, and more, all embellished with imaginative patterns that evoke the magic of childhood.

A first look at Lula and Anouk's space, decked out in Rookie Humans bedding! Each set includes a duvet cover and two pillow cases, all soft to the touch and built to last.

"Lula requested a sunset theme. So we went for sunset colors. I had originally seen a gorgeous sunset-inspired wallpaper/mural, but it was way over our budget, so I decided to paint a few walls instead. I came across this paint brand called Backdrop and they have gorgeous colors with fun names. One of them is called Barragan-cito. After living in Mexico for 6 months and being a fan of architect Luis Barragan, the choice was pretty obvious. We even used it in a small area of our living room (small otherwise my husband freaks out, haha). We then used Pablo Honey for the ceiling and Apéritivo Hour for their reading corner."
"Overall, I wanted a room that is warm, fun, and happy. The furniture is still a work in progress. With this new house I am learning to be patient, finding furniture takes a lot of time and most of the designers I like are from Europe or Australia, so shipping takes forever with Covid especially."

- "I think they really enjoy having all the books displayed for them to see and pick at bedtime. Trips to the bookstore once or twice a week for all of us to pick up a book was one of our favorite things to do during the pandemic. We’ve got a lot of new ones. I try to switch the ones on the shelves with the ones in our bookcases regularly."

"The ceiling height and all the little ceiling windows in this space brings really nice light into their room! Also this room is smaller than their old room but on the other side of this room, where it connects to their bathroom, there is a little mezzanine (on top of the bathroom) just asking for stairs! So this is a fun future renovation project—we have to make that fun space safely accessible for them. A magical little space for them to hide, read, sleep and dream, get inspired!"

"We love how bright, sweet, and playful the print is and we are animal lovers, so what’s not to love? The colors fit really well with our colored walls and it adds playfulness to the room. It makes their bed cozier too. Plus, they love having two pillows each! And the duvet covers are also a nice addition to the bedroom because it complements my paper flamingos!"

"They are still into crafting a lot, drawing, making jewelry. They started tennis lessons with a wonderful teacher during the pandemic and they are loving it so much. Unfortunately, Lula's aerial gym classes stopped during the pandemic and now they completely closed, so we have to look for a new place. Lula is hyperactive, she loves climbing, dancing—you will barely ever see her without a jumping rope or doing cart wheels. Even between two dinner bites!"

"The highlights include the time I got to spend crafting with the girls out of cardboard boxes! Before the pandemic, they would often ask to come in my studio on the weekends to craft together and I would often say 'another time' because I was tired and had already spent so much time during the week making props for clients that on the weekends I wanted to do other things, like go outside on adventures. So, it’s been really nice not to think about my work for a few months and completely focus on them and rediscover art and crafts through the eyes of my daughters. They actually taught me a lot and we started experimenting with colored tape and fabrics and anything we could find around the house from boxes to food packaging. And I loved to see the beauty in the imperfection and how charming things that aren’t glued perfectly straight can be. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my paper art, so I really learned to let it go with them. Kids art is the best! Now I love that the girls start doing projects on their own. They know where the tools are and I often find them in the morning when I wake up building some houses and furniture for their dolls. I am so impressed by how inventive they are."

"Homeschooling! And how frustrating it was to see schools open everywhere else in the world. We are lucky to have two kids that play really well together and didn’t need that interaction with other kids. They never complained during this whole time. But having them sit in front of a screen was really hard, I spent most of my time chasing them around the house and going from one to the other to deal with technology issues and homework. It was pretty stressful. And trying to fit a little bit of work into that didn’t help with the stress level. But overall we don't have much to complain about."
