Tina Phan might be what some would call a triple-threat: smart, funny, and with oodles of style. The thirty-something San Francisco resident pulls a unique double-duty that consists of a day job as a divorce lawyer and a side gig as a fashion blogger with a hearty Instagram following. (We’re not sure many other lawyers can say the same.) In a matter of days, the busy lady will be adding “mother” to her list of titles and accomplishments. But before she heads to the delivery room, we asked the stylish mama-to-be to show off some of her best go-to pregnancy ensembles for every occasion—from the courtroom to the bedroom. Fellow bump-holders, take note.
- "Chic and casual." For her Casual Look, Tina wears an Aritzia dress, Saint Laurent shoes, and Marc Jacobs bag.
- "Since being pregnant, I haven't worn pants as much because I don't like the waistband, so it's been dresses, dresses, dresses.”
- "I've been pretty lucky in that 'styling the bump' hasn't been too difficult for me and I have been able to incorporate a lot of my pre-pregnancy loose clothes into my arsenal. It has been fun to see how some of my clothes look with the bump and my rounder booty, which I am loving right now!”
- "I had a great pregnancy massage and pedicure at Burke Williams, which I would highly recommend. Later in the pregnancy your body can get uncomfortable in any position, so it's nice to have a place to relax and recharge and recenter your body before the big birth day."
- "I'm an attorney and a fashion blogger. I currently run my own firm with two other attorneys, which has been such an amazing professional experience. I've been my own boss for the last six years and I can safely say that there is nothing better than running your own business and directing your own dreams.” For her Work Look, Tina wears an Aritzia dress, vintage Gucci bag, shoes from Zara, an Hermes bracelet, Svelte Metals cuff, and rings she designed herself.
- "I love that there are a lot of challenges, but that there is always a solution that will make the situation better. A lot of times our clients are in a tight spot and it's nice to know that because of your expertise you can do something that can make their situation a whole lot better.”
- "Again, I've been really lucky with being able to wear a lot of the same dresses that I had pre-pregnancy throughout my pregnancy, so it hasn't been much of a challenge for me. I wear a lot of loose-fitting wrap dresses and stretchy dresses that can grow with my bump. For shoes, I live for a kitten heel pump. They are professional looking and extremely easy to walk in all day.”
- "I do plan on going back to work after the few months that I take off from maternity leave. I love what I do and I think that it's healthy to have a work-life balance. My hours are a little more flexible, so I don't have to be so regulated all the time. I also have a very supportive family that lives in the Bay Area, so our baby will get to spend a lot of time with her grandparents during the day. Other than that, we're going to play it by ear and everything will work out.”
- "My booty! I absolutely love my booty! I typically have a smaller butt, but now I'm really liking how it's popped!”
- "I've experienced this sharp pain in my vagina that feels like someone is stabbing me in my cervix randomly throughout the day. It comes in flashes, but I never knew it was a thing. Then I discovered that it was a total thing, and that it was appropriately called 'lightning crotch.’ It could not be more accurately named unless it was called 'random stabbing in the crotch,' which would be way too long to say anyways.”
- "I am so excited to be having a baby girl! I only want girls. I have such an amazing relationship with my mom. We are best friends, we talk about everything, we drive each other crazy, but at the end of the day we love each other and we understand each other as women. I would love to have a relationship like that with my own daughter.” For her Going Out Look, Tina wears a BCBG dress, Club Monaco jacket, Chloé shoes, Chanel bag, Svelte Metals cuffs, and rings she designed herself. "I love that this look is so easy to wear, but isn't maternity, so it's still really cool."
- "I have always loved the name Coco, and not because of Chanel or anyone famous, but just because it's such an cool, fun, and chic name. A lot of people might think it's silly or just cute for a baby, but I think that she is going to define this name by the way that she behaves and she's going to make it cool and chic and smart.”
- "We live in San Francisco, so space is definitely an issue in our apartment. She is going to be sharing a room with us, so we don't need a lot of gear for her. We do love the crib that we got her and the Rockaroo swing. It's so small and cute and I'm excited to see if she'll like it!"
- "My mom will be staying with us for the first week or two to help out with the baby and then after that we're on our own! I know it's going to be hard and there will be a lot of unexpected things, but I think whatever happens, it's going to be an amazing experience.”
- "Getting to know a human being that we made together. Seeing some of our traits, looks, and personality in her is going to be fun to discover; and to see her develop into her own person different from us. That is going to be the most fun to see.”
- "I'm the most nervous about taking her home the first day. There's just going to be this new foreign person in our home, a home that we have never shared with anyone else, and I won't know what to do with her, or if I'm doing it right.”
- "I've watched the movie Babies and it has completely put parenting in perspective for me. There was a baby from Africa who lived in an aboriginal tribe who had next to nothing, a baby who lived in Mongolia who grew up in a small yurt, a Japanese baby living in an urban city, and a San Francisco baby with all its Western comforts. I realized that the way you want to raise your child is going to be the right way. A baby doesn't need toys or changing pads or bottle warmers or the right strollers or expensive bouncers. What they need is a lot love and support from parents and family and somehow everyone seems to find the right path."
- "My baby shower was so much fun. We had brunch outside at Palomino restaurant, overlooking the Bay Bridge. It was a really special day seeing all our friends and family come out and celebrate our baby and our last hoorah before our lives completely change."
- "I don't have a birth plan. I just want to go in and have a healthy baby in the best way possible.”
- "I suspected that it could be at times uncomfortable, at times terrible, and at times it can absolutely amaze you. There haven't been any surprises for me.” For her Around The House Look, Tina wears a Riller & Fount caftan, Tibi shoes, Mar Y Sol bag, Svelte Metals cuffs, and rings she designed herself.
- "My blog is called Phashionable and I started it about a year and half ago. I started it for fun, because I love cool clothes and accessories, but I also love having a place to tell some of the funny things, frustrating things, or exciting things that happen to me. It's a little log of not just my OOTD’s, but my little corner of the internet that lets me be me—good, bad, or ugly."
- Because we can't get enough of this haircut and freckles.
- "I have been surprised and so delighted by the positive response and support! I'm glad that my style and voice resonates with people and I hope that it continues, because it's been so much fun showing my favorite things and telling my favorite stories.”
- "I've been featured in some amazing fashion mags, like InStyle and People StyleWatch, which totally amazes me because I probably have no business being on the opposite page of Giselle Bundchen, and yet there I am. I was born in a refugee camp and now seeing my face in glossy fashion magazines completely blows my mind, because it's so far from where I started.”
