How To Fake A Good Night’s Sleep
Written by James Kicinski-McCoy
Being a parent means sacrificing many thing for our kids—especially our sleep. With babies waking through the night, getting kids off to school in the wee hours of the morning, and staying up late to finish the laundry and housework, our precious hours of rest are slim. It’s hard to look and feel rested on little slumber, but we have a few tricks up our sleeve to help on those days when all you want to do is crawl back into bed. Here’s to looking (and sometimes feeling) like you’ve gotten a full eight hours.
1. Take a shower! There is nothing quite like jump-starting your day with a good shower to wash away the grog and feel refreshed. Try an extra energizing body wash like Burt’s Bees Citrus & Ginger to give your shower a boost.
2. Apply a brightening face serum (like this one) post shower to help bring out the natural glow of your skin tone. Serums are also great anti-aging agents.
3. We recommend a good eye serum, too. Chantecaille Nano Gold Energizing Eye Serum works magic on fatigued peepers with its collagen-building formula and antioxidants. The cool roller-ball applicator has been said to “iron out” under-eye creases, as well.
4. Gently pat on a good refreshing under-eye cream to reduce puffiness and combat unsightly bags from lack of sleep. Origins GinZing is a great one specifically designed with natural optic brighteners to wake tired eyes.
5. Smooth out uneven skin tones with a coverage-building BB cream that’s packed with vitamin C. We love the one from Kiehl’s because it gives you beautiful-looking skin in an instant, without looking like you’re wearing a ton of makeup.
6. Concealer is your best friend when you’ve missed some shut-eye. Hide dark circles in a flash with Stila’s Perfecting Concealer.
7. Give your face a nice youthful (and well rested) glow with a lip and cheek stain like this one from Fat & The Moon. It’s amazing what a little color can do to an exhausted complexion.
8. Here’s another secret used by hard-working models and busy execs burning the midnight oil—Yves Saint Laurent Touche Ećlat Radient Touch. This award-winning illuminator is described as eight hours of sleep and an instant pick-me-up in a magic wand. Yes, please!
9. Rub on some uplifting essential oils (citrus blends have energizing capabilities) to restore a sense of vitality. Or, try an energy mist like The Captivator from Cap Beauty. Its unique essential oil blend awakens your senses in seconds.
10. Eat a good energy-packed breakfast to give you the mojo you need to get through the day, like this bowl of quinoa oatmeal with apple and toasted walnuts. It’s packed with the fuel you need to put a little pep in your step.
11. Yoga. Move your body and fight fatigue with these 10 energizing and uplifting yoga poses. Stretching can be a great way to naturally stimulate your body and mind.
12. When all else fails, there’s always coffee. Coffee, coffee, and more coffee. Or, green tea if coffee is not your thing.
