It’s been a tough week for so many of us, but the show had to go on (quite literally) at West Coast Craft this weekend. The San Francisco showcase of the Pacific coast’s creatives brings over 20,000 people in and out of Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion (located right on the water, with sweeping Bay views), and we were there to take it all in, meeting and greeting parents and children in our “Mother Lounge” play space and taking some of them outside to snap adorable mommy-and-me street style photos. In addition to logging clothing credits, this season we also gave mothers the opportunity to sound off on the election (if they wished to do so). What follows is a touching, inspiring portfolio that is sure to brighten your day.
- Ari wears a Baserange tee, Jesse Kamm pants, Converse shoes, and J.Hannah ring. Coco wears a Dôen dress and Vans. Henry wears a Nico Nico top and shorts, and Crocs.
- "I felt truly gutted the day the results came out. I woke up and tried my best to explain to my 4-year-old daughter what had happened, but I'm still processing it myself. I grew up in a household of five generations of strong Black women—that is my core, that is who taught me how to be. My mother is an activist, my grandmother and great-grandmother grew our family into what it is today. And on these days following the election results, just like on the days before the election results, I continue to tell my children that Black lives matter, even when our country, the police, the judicial system, the institution, is saying that they don't. I continue to tell them that women are the most powerful and magical beings in the world and that we should have all the same rights as men, that we should have complete control of our bodies. I feel like I have always been an activist and encourage others to look around them and see what small things they can do to help the communities they live in. Ask those questions about why the public schools are so bad, why so many Black men are incarcerated, why the wage gap in America is so big. Acknowledging the problem is the first step. Institutionalized racism is real. Racism and sexism are real. And give your kids as many tools as you can to help them grow up in this world we live in. If you are looking to donate funds locally, please check out Eastside Arts Alliance, they are currently working on building a Black Cultural Zone in East Oakland."
- Lana wears a silk shirt dyed with logwood (a collaboration with Case for Making), Minnetonka moccasins, and a bag from her Let's Be Human Together project. Leithian wears a Mabo jumper and a Case for Making indigo shirt.
- "In conversations with so many women this week, the same theme came up again and again: Let's get to work. Some of us have started a project to connect and funnel this energy. We'll be posting more details over the next week. Follow @letsbehumantogether to stay in touch and get involved."
- Sarah wears a Levi's top, Uniqlo pants, and Vans. Sloane wears a Mini Rodini dress and Stan Smiths.
- Aimee wears an H&M sweater and pants, and Jack Purcell shoes. Clive wears an Old Navy top, Gap jeans, and Vans.
- "One small but powerful movement I am taking heart with: wearing a safety pin. You can read more about the symbolism here."
- Margaret wears a Dôen Taos Dress and Dôen Gladiator Sandals.
- "I have been able to remain optimistic and more engaged than ever by going back to the ideas from the women's rights and civil rights movements in this country. This quote by Gloria Steinem is resonating today: 'The future depends entirely on what each of us does every day; a movement is only people moving.'"

- Marie wears a Micaela Greg sweater and Ilana Kohn pants. Luisa wears a Micaela Greg sweater and beret and Leitmotif pants. Analie wears a Micaela Greg sweater and pants.
- "We're focusing on the future now and it may be the far away future, but Weez said if she was the first 'girl' president, 'I would make a new holiday called Family Day and give moneys to the people that don't have moneys.' So, #imwithweez!"
- Katie wears a Kamperett skirt, American Giant tee, Freda Salvador shoes, Lotfi bag, and Jessica Winzelberg necklace.
- Abi wears a Free People top, Zara pants, Birkenstocks, and MAC Heroine lipstick. Finn wears Jonas Paul glasses, and H&M pants, shirts, and shoes.
- "All I've been thinking about this week is song lyrics from The Used: 'It's not a bridge, it's their ideas we must burn,' and these two quotes: 'They tried to bury us, but didn't know we were seeds' and 'If he builds a fence, I'll teach my children to tear it down.'"
- Pom-pom jewelry made in the "Mother Lounge" play space.
- Sharareh wears an Apiece Apart jumpsuit, Lotfi bag, and thrifted Robert Clergerie shoes. Ayla wears a Shaadee Mae romper and pink Salt Water sandals.
- Birgit wears vintage pants from Reliquary, Chimala jacket from Mill Mercantile, Swedish clogs, and Acne tee. Milla wears a denim jumpsuit from Over The Ocean.
- "The devastating and surprising result of the election left us sad and fearful and it arose the question in us if we should move back to Europe. On Thursday I joined the peaceful walkout of thousands of San Francisco High School kids to City Hall to stand up for love and tolerance. It gave me hope and I felt more than ever how much I love this city and that it is the right place for our daughter to learn about and live tolerance, kindness, respect, and empathetic engagement."
- Samira wears vintage Levi's. Leo wears leggings by See Sun.
- Angela wears a Zara jumpsuit and Freda Salvador shoes. Tallie wears a Misha and Puff sweatshirt and Freshly Picked moccasins.
- "It's definitely been a hard week. The results were eye-opening and gut-wrenching in so many ways. I think as a mother to a young daughter, it's more important than ever to teach her the importance of inclusion, acceptance, resilience, and love. We celebrate diversity in our home and no matter what happens in the next four (let's hope it's only four) years, giving her the tools to learn to rise above the negativity and toxicity of this and whatever else may come is paramount. I wish I could subscribe to the acceptance, 'give him a chance' mantra, but I'm feeling so dismal about the future of the country. I do hope that we can all band together and support and fight for what matters and for the strides so many people in the past have championed."
- Shanon wears a Costa Sur vest and top, Urban Outfitters tee, Paige Denim maternity jeans, and Sven clogs.
- "The day after the election I was making my own action list and thinking of what I could do to make a difference. I am not sure if this fire to do something is stronger because I am pregnant. I voted on behalf of this baby boy in my belly who I will raise to have kind eyes towards all people, regardless of race or gender, and to have a passion for protecting the environment. I still believe in good and finding a path to move ahead."
- Alexis wears a vintage shirt, vintage Levi's, a woven Kenyan bag, Birkenstock sandals, and opal ring from the Tuscon Gem Show. Frost wears a Gap dress and jeans and Bird Rock Baby moccasins.
- Sally wears a blouse from H&M's Conscious Collection, a Native American Zuni bracelet, 7 for All Mankind maternity jeans from A Pea in the Pod, Old Navy boots, and vintage Marino Orlandi backpack. Barrett wears an Old Navy tee, Gap jeans, and H&M high-tops.
- "Respond with love. That's been my mantra. It's made me want to try harder every day to raise socially and environmentally conscious humans. As a woman, I feel sad and then empowered to raise my voice. Today my family is going to join hands in peaceful protest around Lake Merritt in Oakland to honor the values of our community. Every day after I'm going to stand up for equality, raise my kids with love for diversity, and care for Mother Earth."
- Lisa wears an Ace & Jig top, Maslo necklace, Uniqlo jeans, Beatrice Valenzuela shoes, and bag by Ayla Isadora.
- "As a woman, a mother, and a human being, I have never been this emotionally fired up about an election—feeling all the feelings of sadness, anger, frustration, confusion, and utter disbelief. Although it seems dark right now, we need to keep fighting for ourselves and for our kids, continuing to teach them about love, humility, acceptance, and compassion. I have been wearing a safety pin to show support, solidarity, and intolerance for hate. We will be participating in a peaceful protest by joining hands in a circle all the way around 3.4 miles of Lake Merritt in Oakland starting at Empowerment Park to honor our community, the values we stand for, and our resilience as a nation."
- Kristen wears an Erica Tanov dress, Freda Salvador boots, Madewell bag, and Soko bracelets.
- "That a person who has said hateful, disturbing things about women and minorities is about to become our president had me depressed and devastated all week. But no more sulking, I'm attending my first Solidarity Sundays meeting in the Bay Area and I'm looking for more ways to support women, minorities, and other oppressed people. I also just added Feminist Fight Club to my Kindle and am considering starting a Bay Area chapter—who’s in?"

- Carly wears Levi's jeans, an Obey shirt, thrifted boots, and Timex watch. Dean wears H&M pants and Old Navy shoes.
- "This election has made me realize that we are very disconnected from a significant part of the population by living here in the Bay Area. People are angry, disenfranchised, and willing to vote for a leader that is a racist, misogynistic, arrogant jerk because it feels like less of a sacrifice than four more years of establishment politics. Although I was heartbroken about the outcome of this election, it's made me realize that things are more broken than we ever imagined, and we are all going to have to work twice as hard to fix them. So, let's keep our ears, eyes, and hearts open and get to work!"
- Our favorite all-purpose mama bag ever!
- Stephanie wears a Brandy Melville top, Zara pants, and Calvin Klein shoes. Ayden wears Zara clothes and Vans shoes.
- Julia wears Zara jeans and shoes and H&M top. Olivia wears a Zara top, Gap jeans, and H&M socks.
- "This will not stop us, now more than ever! For my daughter, I vow to teach her everyday to be an even more empathetic, compassionate, and critical human being. To question everything and hold those accountable! We will together stand strong and know that giving up is never the answer. You keep fighting. For you my baby girl!"
- Sarah wears a Dôen Jardin Dress and Birkenstocks. Nell wears Gap.
- "I voted on Tuesday with both my daughter and mother to mark what I expected to be a very special day. Like so many of us, I was beyond excited to have our first woman president and to have a leader with such a strong record of supporting women, children, and families. I'm deeply concerned about our future and want to do everything I can to ensure our country remains an inclusive, safe place for each and every person. I want my daughter to grow up in a world where she is valued, respected, and has every opportunity available to her. We all need to do so much more to stand up for what we believe in, and advocate for people of all different races and religions, genders, LGBT people, immigrants, and people with disabilities. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a creative community that is ready to take action and truly make a difference."
- Angie wears a The Fifth dress and vintage bag.
- "I'm trying to stay positive and taking action by proving how Americans are way more than one man."
- Connie wears an Old Navy dress, Sam Edelman booties, and Alexis Russell necklaces. Kate wears a Zara top, June & January bow clip, and Freshly Picked moccasins.
- Karla wears a Free People top, Gap jeans, and Louise et Cie shoes. France wears a Zara top and shoes, and Gap jeans.
