Mother Essentials: Ashley Rouse of Trade Street Jam Co.

Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano

To say today’s Mother Essentials subject, Ashley Rouse, is currently “busy” would be an understatement. Not only is her company, Trade Street Jam Co., in the middle of a beautiful “boom” period of growth, the Brooklyn-based entrepreneur also recently welcomed her first child. Baby girl Zola Antoinette arrived just over a month ago, and the jam-making mama is absolutely smitten (as evidenced by her IG feed). Somehow, between the demands of newborn life and keeping up with the high-demands of her buzzing business—which is known for its delicious and inventive combinations, like Strawberry, Chipotle, & Fig, Blackberry & Mulled Merlot, and Smoked Yellow Peach—Ashley was able to dish on her current Mother Essentials that are getting her through the frenetic days ahead. Moms with babies (and perhaps also a business), take note!

Go-To Tote. “I love my Trade Street tote bag. Not only is it super cute, but it holds so much, from baby essentials to farmers’ market finds. And 100% of the proceeds from this bag go to the Bangladesh Project, a co-op that provides fair-wage jobs for Bangladeshi women and contributes a portion of its profits to social and educational projects. It’s a win-win.” Trade Street x Apolis Market Tote, $68, Trade Street Jam Co.

Nike Slides. “For wearing around the house. Or when I was pregnant and my feet were puffy, I wore these everywhere!” Nike Benassi JDI Slide, $24.95, Zappos.

Crafty Time. “I love to do bargello. It passes the time and you can make the cutest little items, like sunglasses cases or tissue boxes or art for the wall. It’s a nice break from emails or your to-do list.” Bargello Kits, $14 and up, Hello Bargelo.
