Mother Essentials: Brandi Sellerz-Jackson

Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano

Brandi Sellerz-Jackson is one of those mamas who seemingly does it all. This includes her meaningful work as a doula, content creator, and co-founder of Moms in Color, how she lovingly raises her three boys (Jax, Jedi, and Jupiter), and how she is committed to evolving and strengthening her marriage. All of these topics—and a whole lot more—are covered in Brandi’s brand-new book, On Thriving (out today!). Below, the busy (but grounded) Pasadena-based talent fills us in on the current Mother Essentials that are keeping her afloat—from neighborhood strolls to her must-have beauty products.

Walks Around My Neighborhood. “I live in Pasadena and it’s the best feeling walking around witnessing such beautiful trees and the mountains.”

On Thriving. “My book, On Thriving, has been a true love that I’ve been working on for the past couple of years! Writing a book is not a fast process. And to see it finally out in the world…it’s absolutely beautiful. The fact that my boys get to see something their mother worked so hard on finally manifest. It’s the best.” On Thriving: Harnessing Joy Through Life’s Great Labors, $26, Bookshop and Amazon.

Osea. “I love Osea’s mud facial cleanser and their Vagus Nerve Oil. It’s the best thing to start my morning off or end the day with. It’s truly self-care in a bottle.” Ocean Cleansing Mud,  $48, Osea. Vagus Nerve Oil, $48, Osea.

Parker Clay. “I take my Parker Clay bag everywhere! Chances are if you’ve seen me out in public, you’ve seen me carrying a Parker Clay bag! It keeps me organized and they make beautiful bags! They are also a wonderful brand to support as their mission is philanthropic.” Merkato Signature Tote, $248, Parker Clay. Dove Mini Handbag, $108, Parker Clay.

Moon Juice Powders. “I love their powders! My favorite is putting their adaptogenic powders (Chaga is my fave) in my morning tea!” Chaga Powder, 48, Moon Juice.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint. “This product has done my skin a world of good. It makes me look as if I had a full night of sleep.” Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40, $48, Ilia.

Frank & Eileen Button-Ups. “I love a good button-down—in any color! My go-to is Frank & Eileen.” Button-Down, $238, Frank + Eileen.

Freda Salvador Shoes. “There’s nothing like comfortable shoes. Freda Salvador is the best!” FredaSalvador.com.

Subset. “Organic undies? Yes please! The creator of Subset calls it innerwear. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve been wearing these for a few years now. There’s something about this brand that feels super ritualistic when getting dressed.” WearSubset.com.

Lunya PJs. “I believe, similar to how we sleep train our little ones, many of us are in desperate need of sleep training ourselves—which I talk about in my book. Setting a bedtime ritual and putting on comfy pajamas is an absolute self-care tool!” Lunya Washable Silk PJs via Revolve.

Loop Earplugs. “I live in a house full of boys, a musician for a husband, and a rowdy Labradoodle. I know that the world does not stop nor lower its volume. So I give myself exactly what I need to thrive in the home and world that I live in.” LoopEarplugs.com.

Kristie Streicher Eyebrow Gel. “The hold on this eyebrow gel is amazing! Great pigment and your brows feel absolutely nurtured.” The Complete Nurtured Brow, $99, KS & Co.

My Orange Tree. “We are blessed to have a mature grapefruit, orange, and lemon tree in our backyard! My morning ritual includes me picking an orange and making a warm cup of orange, turmeric, ginger tea.”
