Mother Essentials: Breion A. Winston

Written by Erin Feher

If you’re one of the more than 30,000 followers of entrepreneur Breion A. Winston on Instagram, you already know one thing: She’s absolutely head over heels for her baby boy Malachi, a.k.a. “Chi Chi” (who just turned 2 this week!). The second thing you might notice: She’s a devoted wife to NFL star Jameis Winston, and also a budding entrepreneur who’s passionate about building her activewear brand, HERRway, which celebrates women of all shapes and sizes and encourages them to get active. “It started with wanting to have something for myself,” Breion says of HERRway, which she launched at the beginning of 2020. “I want women to do things her way. I want to encourage us to know it’s fun to workout. It’s fun to be active. It’s fun to be healthy and you can stay with it as well.” Below, the Florida-based designer fills us in on her own quarantine workout routine, plus her other current family faves.

Please, Baby, Please by Spike & Tonya Lee. “This is Malachi’s favorite book. I think he just likes the word baby and the illustrations.” Please, Baby, Please, $8.66, Amazon or Bookshop.

Old McDonald Book. “Meanwhile, this specific book plays the instrumental of Old McDonald and Malachi loves singing along with the words.” Old MacDonald Had a Farm (Sing and Slide), $9.98, Amazon or Bookshop.

HERRway. “HERRway is my activewear apparel line that I love to sport while doing any type of workouts, physical actives, or simply running errands.” HERRway.com.

Peloton Workouts. “My Peloton has been a lifesaver since being a mom and on days when I can’t get out of the house or I don’t have enough time to run to the actual gym. Otherwise, living in Florida, when the weather is nice, nothing beats a nice run followed by a workout outdoors.” OnePelaton.com.

Becoming by Michelle Obama. “It’s just a great read, especially from a parent perspective to see the upbringing of Michelle Obama and how her parents instilled a will for excellence in her.” Becoming, $11.89, Amazon or Bookshop.

Mini Outdoor Grill. “This has helped Malachi’s imagination, as far as cooking goes, and we interact with him like he’s running an actually outdoor grill!” Step2 All Around Playtime Patio with Canopy Playhouse, $328, Amazon.

Learning Games App. “This app really comes in handy in travel or restaurants when Malachi needs a stimulant instead of watching YouTube. It’s also really helped him pick up the pace of learning his ABC’s and identifying words.” Learning Games For Toddlers, via the AppStore.

Toddler Puzzles App. “This app has helped Malachi’s motor skills when we can’t get to a crayon and paper. It helps him trace, color, and put together a scrabbled picture.” Puzzles For Toddlers via the AppStore.

Camp Tampa. “It’s been closed down for COVID-19, but this is one of the best gyms I’ve been apart of. They are always bringing new refreshing classes.” Camp Tampa, 3012 West Palmira Avenue, Tampa, FL.

Waterfront Stroll. Bayshore Boulevard has beautiful scenery to walk when you want a casual scroll and is perfect for mothers to get their little ones out and look at the water view.”
