2019 is already more than half-way over (seriously?!), which means Nameberry is tallying up its data on the most-searched-for baby names over the past 6 months, to come up with 100 baby girl and 100 baby boy monikers that are trending hard with new and expecting parents.
Longstanding number ones on the Social Security list (Emma and Liam) don’t even crack the Top 20 on Nameberry’s new list. Instead, Isla (for girls) and Archie (for boys) nabbed the top spots. (To note: The Social Security list is the official count on annual baby names across the U.S., while Nameberry’s lists skew less mass and more under-the-radar/on-the-rise).
Archie‘s rise to the top of the most-searched-for list is thanks largely to Britain’s biggest tiny superstar: the royal baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Where as Isla owes its win in part to actress Isla Fisher. The Scottish name is going gangbusters in Canada, Australia, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England (all countries where it ranks in the top 10), yet has only made it to number 82 on the U.S.’s Social Security list.
Names with roots abroad seem to be having a moment overall: Freya and Axel hail from Scandinavia; the United Kingdom gave us Poppy, Elsie, and Esme; and Aarav, Bodhi, and Vihaan are Hindi in origin.
Check out the top 100 for each sex below, and head over to Nameberry to learn more about this year’s list.
