This year has been one like no other. But one thing remains the same: folks are having babies, and those babies need names. Which brings us to this little election-week distraction roundup of the most popular baby names of 2020, according to BabyCenter.

The names that made BabyCenter‘s top 200 list (which you can read in entirety below!), are based on polling 520,000 new parents who read the site. Perhaps no surprise, the name Sophia reigned supreme on the girls’ side (that’s now 11 years in a row!) and the top 10 girls’ names held steady. However, there were some movers and shakers in the bunch, including the names Aaliyah and Riley rising up the ranks. Meanwhile, Liam topped the boys’ list (for the second year in a row), and there was some slight shuffling around in the top 20, with Elijah, Noah, and Mateo gaining traction.

As for 2020-specific trends, the names Kamala and Liberty rose 104% and 12%, respectively. While Karen (13% drop) and Chad (12% drop) are on a predictable decline. Also, after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in early 2020, both of their names have risen in popularity.

See the entire 200 most popular names of 2020 list below, and read more over on BabyCenter. For some less-mainstream trends, be sure to check out these 100+ rising baby names according to Nameberry.
