After reading our home profile on stylist and mother of two (and one on the way) Kendra Smoot, you might imagine that she and her fam never need to leave their beautiful, rustic abode for inspiration. It’s really that dreamy. Alas, the troupe of four (plus bump) are explorers at heart and get out of their space whenever they can to hit up the Bay Area’s best. Here, she spills the beans on her top kid-friendly faves—from San Francisco’s finest to awe-inspiring spots on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge.

What are your favorite places in the Bay Area to…
Eat with the kids?Tomales Bay Oyster Company or the pizza place in Point Reyes Station. I love it when there’s an outdoor space that the kids can run around in and Seth and I can have a more leisurely dinner.”

Eat with adults?M. H. Bread & Butter. It’s actually pretty decent for kids, too. And Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack in the Mission.”

Shop for kids?Mint in Mill Valley—it has an amazing curated collection for both kids and adults. And TugTug in S.F.”

Shop for yourself?Erica Tanov, General Store, and Malia Mills.”

Play with your children? “On the beach or on a hike. There are some really cool watershed lakes here that are all connected.”

Play with your adult friends? “Same as above.”

Get out in nature?Point Reyes National Seashore has so many great hikes. Short ones to stunning beaches or 12-mile hikes if you really want to spend the day.”

Any good flea markets/thrift shops? The Garage, which was in Fairfax but is moving to Olema, Beach House in Farifax, Alameda Flea Market, and Ohmega Salvage in Berkeley.”

Any good museums? “I would love some recommendations here. We used to go to museums weekly, if not more, in New York City and I miss it. The one spot I’ve taken the kids is the Bay Area Discovery Museum, which we all kind of adore.”

Where do you take out-of-town visitors?Muir Woods, the Point Reyes Lighthouse, and Bolinas—the drive alone is spectacular.”

Any tourist-y places that are worth it to visit? “The Sutro Bath ruins at sunset.”
