Mother Essentials: Emily Fletcher of Ziva Meditation & zivaKIDS

Written by Katie Hintz-Zambrano

Do you—and your kids—need some chill in your life? Emily Fletcher is here to help. The author and mama of one (Jasper, 2 1/2) is the founder of Ziva Meditation, a highly acclaimed training technique aimed at ridding the body of stress. Praised by doctors, athletes, and celebs, the program is now rolling out a spin-off for little ones, dubbed zivaKIDS. Developed with help from folks at Sesame Street, world-class child psychologist Dr. Shefali Tsabary (best-selling author of The Conscious Parent), and a mindful education expert from Harvard, zivaKIDS addresses the rising rates of anxiety and stress in children and helps kids ages 4-14 learn calming techniques while being entertained along the way (there are puppets and kid-friendly tunes involved!). Below, check out Emily’s current mindful mama must-haves.

Meditation. “The thing that has kept me sane and thriving through the intensity that is life now is meditation. Specifically the effective combination of mindfulness, meditation, and manifesting that make up the Ziva Technique. You can check out the 1st 3 days of our most popular course here.” ZivaMeditation.com

Parenting Resources. “My favorite parenting resources include books like ParentSpeak by Jennifer Lehr and The Joy of Family Rituals by Barbard Bisou. I’m also a fan of the Unruffled Podcast for all things RIE parenting. We also have a whole curated list of mindfulness and meditation books and resources for parents and kids alike inside zivaKIDS.” ParentSpeak: What’s Wrong with How We Talk to Our Children—and What to Say Instead, $14.95, Bookshop and Amazon; The Joy of Family Rituals, $19.19, Bookshop and Amazon.

Potty Training Plan. “We are currently in the throes of potty training and using the Oh Crap Potty Training Method by Jamie Glowacki. I also like the Potette Plus Travel Potty, so no matter where you are you have a toilet handy.” Kalencom Potette Plus 2-in-1 Travel Potty Trainer Seat, $15.72, Amazon

zivaKIDS. “If you think you don’t have time to meditate, a great solution is to get your kids to meditate with you with zivaKIDS. Sounds impossible, but we worked with folks from Sesame Street and Harvard to create the most entertaining meditation training to help kids thrive. In only 7 days your kid will be able to practice mindfulness, meditation, and manifesting with you. Get ready to be humbled, though. Kids are so much better at presence and wonder than we adults are.” ZivaMeditation.com/Kids

Weighted Crystal Blanket. “This might be the most ridiculous and bougie thing I’ve ever purchased, but I got a weighted blanket from Sunday Citizen that’s filled with gemstones and rose quartz. I sleep with it and meditate with it. It may be placebo, but I feel great afterwards.” Sunday Citizen Crystal Weighted Blanket, $259, Verishop

Rose Face Oil. “If sleep deprivation is making you feel like you’re losing your glow, Olivia Clementine’s Rose Face Oil will help. I put this on after moisturizing and before gua sha.” Rose Face Oil, $70, Olivia Clementine

Beautycounter Mineral Boost. “I’m super into Beautycounter’s Countertime collection, specifically the Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence.” Countertime Mineral Boost Hydrating Essence, $62, Beautycounter.

BabyBuddha Pump. The Baby Buddha breast pump is super powerful and very portable. It allowed me to pump in between appointments while breastfeeding through the launch of my debut book, Stress Less, Accomplish More. Speaking of the book, it’s a great way for moms to take some much needed time to fill up their own cups, reverse their body age, increase sex drive, and basically fit an hour long nap into a 15-minute meditation.” BabyBuddha Double Electric Breast Pump Kit, $199.99, Target.

Body Stone. “My friend Kate McLeod just made an awesome product call Body Stone. It’s perfect for travel, it’s organic and super hydrating even for winter.” Body Stone, $38, Kate McLeod.

Inglesia Highchair. “I love the Inglesia highchair. We have two of them; one for the kitchen and one on our dining table. It travels well and it doesn’t take up any space in your house.”  Inglesina Fast Table Chair, $69, Pottery Barn Kids.

Serenity Kids Pouches. “When Jasper was eating pouches we loved Serenity Kids because they included clean, grass-fed meat, they’re very low in sugar, have organic veggies and high quality fats to support brain health.” Serenity Kids 6-Pack, $29.95, Serenity Kids.

Doona Carseat-Stroller. “When Jasper could fit in it, I loved the Doona Car Seat + Stroller. It’s especially awesome for city moms who are in and out of Lyfts. You can also take it on an airplane. I don’t know how we would have made it through the first 1.5 years without it.” Doona Carseat (Convertible Stroller), $499, Pottery Barn Kids.

SmartyPants Vitamins. “Jasper and I both love Smarty-Pants Vitamins. I take the prenatal and he takes the toddler formula. They’re so delicious and I treat them like candy!” SmartyPants Organics Toddler Multivitamin Gummies, $16.99, Target.
