As we settle into the Thanksgiving season, there’s one thing we’re incredibly grateful for: This inspiring community of women (many of them mothers) who read this site, attend our Mother gatherings, and the events of our sister brand, In Good Company. One such occasion that had plenty of good juju and thankful vibes flowing was In Good Company’s first-ever (but definitely not last) Wellness + Creativity Day, which went down at the gorgeous Headlands Center for the Arts just a few weeks ago. The day was focused on forming a deeper connection with oneself and other women, and kicked off with a panel full of Mother favorites—Alex Elle, Jen Garrido, Joanne Encarnacion, and Ajolique Jude—as well as an opening intention setting with A-lan Holt. A journaling workshop, yoga session with Lululemon, guided hike with Keen, and yummy food spreads and cocktails all followed. There were loads of smiles, a good amount of tears, and plenty of thanks given throughout the day. For a recap of the supremely special gathering, check out our slideshow below.
- The beautiful venue: Headlands Center for the Arts, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
- With the gorgeous patina of the center's walls, inhabited for decades by artists, all that was needed to dress up the space was Natalie Bowen's poetic florals.
- A beautiful art installation on the property.
- Even the bathrooms are something to behold! (Not pictured: The urinal-themed art installation!).
- Outside, getting the party started as the morning fog burns off.
- But first...coffee.
- Lady Falcon Coffee Club coffee, dusted with Moon Juice Spirit Dust, to be exact.
- Happy customer, A-lan Holt.
- Busy at work in the girl-powered Lady Falcon Coffee Club truck, a vintage model from 1948.
- Lady Falcon's pretty and pink Cascara cold brew, accented by Natalie Bowen's florals.
- It's a family affair for cheese-maker and bagel-baker Hadley Cameron of Daily Driver.
- A bagel spread with a view.
- Diamond of California set up a yogurt parfait bar with nearly a dozen fruit and nut toppings to chose from.
- The pretty result.
- Cute breakfast buddies before the main show begins.
- The stage is set for our panel on Wellness + Creativity.
- Our lovely panelists Ajolique Jude, Alex Elle, Joanne Encarnacion, and Jen Garrido.
- In Good Company founder and Mother editor Katie Hintz-Zambrano welcoming our attendees.
- Filmmaker, poet, and Interim Executive Director of Stanford's Center for Diversity in the Arts, A-lan Holt, leads the group in an intention setting.
- Topics discussed on our panel included wellness as a trend, self-care in communities of color, the commercialization of self-care, livng a creative life, and much more.
- It was all noteworthy, for sure.
- Next up: A yoga session thanks to Lululemon.
- All attendees received Lululemon leggings.
- And Lululemon mats!
- Maybe all of our yoga sessions should include rose petals...
- The Lululemon yoga den in action.
- Some of our littlest attendees joined in, too.
- Luckily, Lululemon ambassador Chelseah Healey is a mother herself and scooped up the tots—even putting one to sleep—so their mamas could get some relief.
- Ommmmm...
- Thank you Lululemon and Chelseah Healey for the beautiful sweat session.
- The after-yoga, all-day snack bar by Diamond of California.
- Meanwhile, our other group began their day with a journaling workshop lead by Alex Elle and Ajolique Jude in the Mess Hall.
- There were laughs...
- And lots of other emos flowing...
- Attendees participated in a mirroring exercise.
- And also learned to flip the script on their own personal narrative.
- Lunch is served! Thank you Bare Snacks for the delicious cheese and dips spread to complement your new veggie chips!
- Bare Snacks beet chips, just one of the new veggie chips varieties.
- A beautiful Katie Powers Catering salad served on classic Crow Canyon enamelware, perfect for our rustic, outdoor setting.
- Spiked hot cider was served up, courtesy of Juna.
- Juna founder Jewel Zimmer, a former fine-dining pastry chef and certified sommelier, mixing her brew.
- For those who chose to get dosed, the CBD drops are said to "awaken pleasure physically, spiritually, and emotionally."
- Cheers!
- Other beverage options included Suja juice.
- The Living Apothecary's probiotic kefir water teas.
- And Health-Ade Kombucha.
- We also had an all-day water station set up in the Clubhouse Caravan, featuring a Crow Canyon H20 tank and tumblers.
- Mama friends and their babies.
- A love so real.
- Gallerist and artist Vanessa Blaikie, Katie Hintz-Zambrano of Mother and In Good Company, and Homework's Susan Work.
- Our hikers, ready to go!
- Brand-new Keen hiking boots, all lined up for our attendees.
- And they're off!
- Matchy-matchy.
- The most beautiful Marin Headlands setting.
- Just look at these views!
- Taking it in.
- Spotted: the Ergobaby x Keith Haring carrier putting in some miles on the trail.
- Again, these views! And just minutes away from San Francisco.
- Our hike leader, Joanne Encarnacion (right), in an extra-special pair of Keen hiking boots.
- Kris Galamarini of Neve and Hawk chowing down on her Diamond of California trail mix.
- If our hike wasn't awe-inspiring enough, it ended at the beach.
- And...exhale.
- Cake time! This beautiful marble masterpiece was made by mama and iconic S.F. cake maker Jasmine Rae.
- Almost too pretty to eat. But what was on the inside—vanilla bean cake + citrus cream cheese + honey buttercream—convinced us.
- Because cake goes great with cocktails, we had Hanson of Sonoma on hand, serving two delicious options—an Organic Cucumber Gimlet and an Organic Mandarin Greyhound (our favorite!).
- Shake it, shake it.
- And cheers!
- The Clubhouse Caravan turned Scribe wine bar!
- If Scribe sounds familiar, it's because it's one of our favorite places in the Bay and where Mother hosted its third anniversary party!
- Lauren Podoll and Natalie Bowen at Natalie's DIY smoke-stick making station.
- Natalie showing folks the ropes.
- Some of the beautiful results.
- Local "brow whisperer" Michele Holmes offered complimentary services.
- Besties Malika Yasmin and Shahidah Zareef after a blissed out day.
- Our cute 100% organic cotton gift bags, courtesy of the mama-owned Farm Fresh Clothing.
- Per usual, our gift bags were fully loaded with goodies from Diamond of California, Lululemon, Keen, Moon Juice, Farm Fresh Clothing, Grove Collaborative, OWYN, Earth Tu Face, Vertly, Candlewick Press, Method, Bare Snacks, People I've Loved, Juna, RxBar, Freda Salvador, Kikoko, Oh Joy!, Alex Elle, Scribe's Una Lou Rose, Lilah B., and Ellie Fun Day.
- We're forever grateful for everyone for joining us. Until next time...
